It Won’t Matter If We Don’t Get to Work
We need to stop messing around and get serious about candidate recruitment.
I’m shaking my head in bewilderment, although I know there is nothing about this that should surprise me. I went to bed last night with the understanding that the Democrats thought they had enough votes to block this BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL - only to wake up this morning to find that JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the bill back to the House.
What the hell.
What the hell.
What the hell.
Only THREE Republicans voted against this atrocity: Senators Rand Paul (KY), Susan Collins (ME), and Thom Tillis (NC). Interesting, right? Especially since Senator Flip-Flopper-in-Chief Ron Johnson from my own great state voted in favor of this bill after waxing poetic on all the reasons he would NOT vote for it.
I am so tired of this bullshit. Excuse my language but I’m calling it for what it is: BULLSHIT.
I’m all about saving money but this is not the way to go about it. When it puts the lives of our own people at risk - how is that better.
I’m not a policy person. So I will not be trying to examine the bill in detail. I’m the person who focuses on the, “How the hell did we get here and what can we do to change the direction of the tide.”
I left the Republican Party last year because of a myriad of issues both personal and party/issue related. I’m sick and tired of the party line that you vote for the status quo - that you vote party - that you vote the lesser of two evils.
We should not even be in the position where that is a thought. Why are we not putting forth the best candidates possible? I look at Georgia and the people they keep putting up against MTG. They just don’t have it. I look at them and shake my head. Are they serious? I look to my own state - Senator Ron Johnson - the party won’t primary the man they rabidly salivate over. It’s up to the Democratic Party to put forth an honest to goodness serious candidate and yet, they have not.
Governor Tony Evers, should he decide to not run another term, will mean we have to find someone who can WIN. It has to be someone with name recognition, someone who knows Wisconsin. Someone who can broad appeal to the voters and optics DO MATTER! Anything less than someone with charisma, intellect, the ability to communicate effectively and put the GOP on defense and we lose.
The Republican Party here in Wisconsin will likely put up someone like Congressman Tom Tiffany (God help us), Rebecca Kleefisch) please GOD NO!!) Eric Hovde who previously ran and lost for US Senator in Wisconsin against incumbent Senator Tammy Baldwin. Hovde, in my opinion, needs to just stay out of politics period. Tim Michels who ran last time and lost also needs to fade into oblivion. He is a loser all the way around - like Hovde. Currently, the only one to throw their ballcap into the race on the GOP side is Josh Schoemann, a Washington County Executive.
We cannot be sitting on the sidelines. We cannot be waiting until midterms to figure out a plan. Strategy has to be now. Winning won’t be achieved unless we actually roll up our sleeves and get to work. Good candidates rarely just LAND in your lap. They have to be sought out, worked with, helped, and encouraged. They have to have an appeal.
I always ask candidates two basic questions and it is IMPERATIVE they answer those questions as succinctly and coherently as possible.
• Why are you running for office?
• Why should I vote for you?
If they hem and haw over the answer - nope. It’s not the right time.
If you cannot explain your stance - why you are running and why people should vote for you over the other candidate, you won’t win. Simple. As. That.
We have to stop assuming people won’t vote for the Republican candidate because of Trump and all the crap he and this administration are pulling. The Senate and House Republicans have largely proven they have only their personal interests at heart and to hell with their constituents (you and me). So STOP feeding the monster. This is beyond party platform. This is beyond party period. We have to vote for the best person who WILL work for YOU AND ME. They have to have the balls to stand against those who seek to undermine the very people who voted for them.
It also means WE, the voters, better start educating ourselves and informing ourselves better than ever before. We cannot stand idly by as the country burns to the ground. OUR VOICE is our power. OUR VOTE is our power. DO not EVER let them forget that. And do not UNDERESTIMATE your own power.
Get caffeinated up, eat your spinach, rest now, because we have crucial work to do.
